Nicaragua 2009

To send a hungry child away is unthinkable… yet it has happened.  Hungry children were being fed every day, and they were getting help with their schoolwork from volunteer tutors.  But now they’ve been turned back out onto the streets.

Why?  The simple reason is no money for food-- the Nicaraguan church that ran these two care centers lost their support and can no longer buy the food needed to keep their doors open.  Nicaragua is a country with widespread unemployment, one of the highest degrees of income inequality in the world, and the third lowest per capita income in the Western Hemisphere.

Thankfully Troy and Ginette Doudy, our ministry partners in Nicaragua, heard about the two care centers, one in the capital city of Managua and one on the eastern coast of Bluefields.  They told us about the agonizing decision that had to be made to close the doors and turn away over 200 hungry children who came day after day to find a little relief from the outside world.  Now, turned out onto the streets of this struggling country, these children are at risk once again.

Here is our simple request… please consider planting a seed of hope into the lives of these children.  Your generous gift of $30, $50, or $75 today… whatever you feel in your heart to do… will help us rush shipping containers full of food so these centers can open and serve these kids once again.

Without the food and help that these care centers provide, most of the children will be forced to work on the street, forage the dumps for food, or suffer malnutrition. They will fall behind in school or have to drop out completely.

It’s not a pretty picture, but with your help today, we can change it by sending shipping containers… each 40-feet long… full of food and supplies to reopen the centers and repaint a future of hope and possibility for these kids in Nicaragua.

Every dollar donated means another 7 pounds of food can be loaded and shipped.  The gift you give today will feed these children in spirit, soul, and body in a way that they will never forget.  Thank you for your help and thank you for acting now.
